At BHN, we recognize that Pharmacy costs are a major part of overall claims spend for our Workers Compensation clients. BHN utilizes multiple approaches to achieve shared goals with our clients:
- Maximize savings
- Help injured workers to live the highest quality of life possible
BHN was the first Managed Care Organization in Kentucky to incorporate Pharmacy into its MCO Plan. In all jurisdictions, BHN will work with our client’s preferred Pharmacy Benefit Manager to integrate BHN’s specially trained Rx Review Nurses into the pharmacy program, utilizing multiple approaches:
- Prospective Review of all new, non-formulary medications. BHN’s goal is to approve only those medications proven to be medically necessary and related to the compensable work injury. Special review is done for Compound Medications and Specialty drugs.
- Concurrent Review of ongoing medications to assure that they are prescribed at the lowest possible dose for the shortest duration.
- Retrospective Review of the overall medication regimen with special emphasis on brand name and combination medications, as well as dangerous combinations of medications, including opioids.
